8th Grade Graduation

Good evening teachers, parents, relatives, and friends.
It seemed like only yesterday we were playing four-square and jumping and running wild on the playground. It was natural then to be in supervised areas since our high energy levels needed to be controlled. But age takes a toll on us, and here we are today, mature teenagers, receptive to the challenges before us. We made it through the burdensome projects and tremendous amounts of homework associated with middle school and we cannot wait to enjoy the special privileges that high school offers. Picture us, no after school supervision and being looked upon as mentors as we set the example for the elementary and middle school. In addition, we will be able to choose many of our courses.
As we make the transition from middle school to high school, we will see some of our classmates and close friends leave. We will also have to welcome new students into our midst. However, friendship should be a lasting bond between each and every one of us and even if we are separated, we should still remember the friends we had. Undoubtedly, our accomplishments mean a great deal to us, but we must never forget the friends who encouraged and helped in those accomplishments.
Thanks to each and every one of our teachers, for preparing us to cope with what's to come in high school and beyond. I know we breathe a sigh of relief when at last the school year is over, but years after leaving school we should keep in touch with our teachers and let them feel proud of having taught us about friendships that never end.
As I reflect on my past, I am thankful for my grandparents and parents, who helped to mold me to what I am today. Also, thanks to my other close relatives whose encouragement and support gave me more confidence in myself.
To my classmates, I quote the words of a song by Rodgers and Hammerstein, "Climb every mountain, ford every stream, follow every rainbow, ‘til you meet your dreams."
