"Abortion In Todays Society"

Abortion is a topic which has always been able to grasp the attention of our society and keep its attention. There was a time when to even speak the word abortion meant definite banishment. As far as society was concerned, abortion was an outright murder of an innocent, unborn child who had absolutely no say-so in his future. Not much has changed in today's society. There are still many opposers to abortion and they are not afraid to make their feelings obvious. From peaceful, group protests to violent attacks on doctors who perform the abortions, these opposers seem to be fearless while trying to convince the world that abortion is wrong. However, there are the advocates to abortion, the people who see absolutely nothing wrong with terminating a pregnancy. These people are just as strong-willed as the opposers, and have no problem with making their feelings known, as well. They understand that women have abortions for various reasons. "Women have abortions because continuing the pregnancy would cause them hardship, endanger their life or health, or because prenatal testing has shown that the fetus will be born with severe abnormalities"(Davidson). Yet, the issue still remains of whether or not an abortion is more of a risk to the mother than continuing with the pregnancy. There is an abundance of research out there today loaded with statistics that can definitely be used to prove that abortions can absolutely threaten the life of the mother and cause further problems later in life.
"Abortion has been a legal procedure in the United States since 1973" (Davidson). However, many women still do not know about the dangers that are involved with abortion procedures. They don't know that abortions can be very dangerous to their health. When a woman is determining whether an abortion is something that she really wants to do or not, she should look at the different types of risks that are linked to abortions.
