Which is why we need to keep striving to take the
small step. Keep moving forward. Keep challenging ourselves to at least shuffleSometimes I find myself thinking, "If I can't make this my first priority, maybe I
shouldn't be a member at all." But instead, I should be saying, "With the time I have,
what can I do?" What can each of us do? What small steps can we take?

We can try to sign up for minor roles, such as grammarian or timer. If that seems like
too much, we can try to arrive early and help step up, or stay afterwards and put
everything away. If all else fails, we can take the time to be good participants while
we're here, writing comments to speakers and making guests feel at home.

Of course, in an ideal world, we would have time to give every activity our 100%. In a
semi-ideal world, we would at least give Toastmasters our 100%! But ours is not an
ideal world.

Which is why I think that, -whether for Toastmasters or the environment or volunteer
work or an exercise program- the importance is not always how quickly we reach our
goals, but in our persistence. Sticking with something, even if we can't give always put
in as much time as we'd like. Setting small goals that we can achieve without giving
up. And, maybe most importantly, trying not to get frustrated with...
