Abuse Of Drugs By Athletes

Many professional athletes use drugs to enhance there physical ability today. Today, the most abused drug that professional athletes use is steroids. High school and college athletes also use drugs to enhance their performance. Those who don't use steroids use over the counter enhancers such as creatine, androstenedione, and erythropoietin. Steroids and these other drugs have many harmful side affects, for example physiological differences, such as facial hair in women or gynecomastia (breast growth) in men, to serious health risks such as heart failure. These drugs do have some medical uses but are carefully controlled and are illegal unless used in accordance with a prescription.
Not only do college athletes use drugs but they use alcohol as an answer to some of their problems. College students abuse alcohol to take pressure off themselves. The reason many professional athletes do drugs is because they have a goiod performance one week but the next week they don't. Some of them think the answer is to take performance enhancing drugs which will make them play better.
Mark Mcguire has been a popular basesball player in the past few years because of his homerun record, but he has been using androstenedione, a type of steroid that boosts testosterone levels. Some other famous athletes that were know for their drug abusing were Daryl Strawberry and Lawrence Taylor, who were both addicted to cocaine. Lawrence Taylor was considered the best linebacker in the NFL, a huge role model to young kids. During games Lawrence Taylor would do cocaine while holding it in his glove on the playing field. He has been arrested numerous times for possession. Like Lawrence Taylor, Darryl Strawberry also had a cocaine addiction.
