Actors In The Crucibel

The movie, The Crucible takes place during the time of The Salem Witch Trials. In the book I believe how the characters were described, and made out to be made the book interesting. In the movie it's the acting of the characters, I think the actors play their parts very well in this movie. Such as, John Procter, Reverend Hale, and Abigal Williams, they're three very different people but are able to show relation to one another.

John Proctor was a farmer who lived a simple life up until the witch trials when his biggest secret in life had to be revealed. He had commited adultery with a servant of his by the name of Abigal Williams. Proctor tried to stay clear of the trials because he knew it was nonsense and did not want to get caught up in it. He was able to stay clear until Abigal accused Elizabeth Proctor of Witchcraft. Proctor went to court to save his wife. In front of the court he destroyed his name by confessing to adultery and calling Abigal a whore. This fell through though and Proctor was accused of witchcraft himself. John was given the chance to be set free if he would confess to witchcraft, but instead he stuck to what he believed and was hung for it.

Proctor gave up his name in an effort to stop these witch trials, he realizes that the whole ordeal is false and wants it stopped. Not only is he the only person brave enough to step against the court, but he has witnessed Abigal saying that she's making up these accusations. He not only wants to save his wife, but also his friends in the village that are going to be hung. At the end of the movie, he has a chance to go free, to sign his name, agreeing that he practices witchcraft. But he realizes, that by not giving the court what they want, they will lose their power, and will not be able to continue with their trials. He saves lives, by giving up his own.

Reverend Hale also comes into play in all this. Hale acts very stuck...
