Advantages And Disadvantages Of Am
The advantages of AM are easy to create in a transmitter and AM receivers are simple in design. The main disadvantage is its inefficiency because two-thirds of an AM signal's power is concentrated in the carrier, which contains no intelligence. One-third of the power is in the sidebands, which contain the signal's intelligence. However it wasted of the total power output of an AM transmitter, only about one-sixth is actually productive, useful output. Other disadvantages of AM include the pretty wide amount of frequency space an AM signal occupies and its weakness to static and other forms of electrical noise. AM is simple to tune on ordinary receivers, and that is why it is used for almost all short wave broadcasting and AM is commonly used at radio frequencies and the first method used to broadcast commercial radio. AM broadcasting has a better performance in talk radio or news radio due to lower reliability sound that the reasons for why FM cannot replace AM. On the other hand, music radio and public radio have moved to FM in recent years. That is because it was clear that FM offered a richer and fuller sound than AM. One major disadvantage of amplitude modulation is that telephone lines are very vulnerable to variations in transmission quality that affect amplitude. Mostly on long-distance calls, the hearing volume of a person's voice varies during the course of a conversation. If a modem using amplitude modulation is transmitting a 1 when the telephone connection volume fades, the receiving modem will hear a low-amplitude sine wave and understand it as a 0.
