Alibrandi

In the core text Looking for Alibrandi by Melina Marchetta, Puffin books published in 1992, Josephine and her father Michael Andretti primarily cannot stand the sight of each other. When she first meets him she gains the impression that he is intelligent and a decent human being but obviously does not make it known to him. "He had a sense of strength about him; he looked intellectual and so sure of himself." After Josephine gets into a fight at school with Carly Bishop, Carly's father threatens her by saying he is going to take legal action. The only way Josie was able to free herself from this mess was to mention that her father is a barrister. Despite their agreement no to talk to each other, Josie calls Michael, her father, to come to help her. Josie was surprised that Michael had come, and at that point where Josie was walking alongside her father is when she has a change in perspective. It is evident that Josie likes the feeling of having a father figure. "I walked past my classmates with Michael Andretti beside me and for a few moments I knew how it felt to be walking alongside ones father. It was a great feeling." At that point Josie and Michael open both their hearts and so their relationship commences.

This change in perspective is highlighted in the poem "The Door", by Miroslav Holub when the composer clearly suggests that new experiences can lead to positive change and in some cases negative results. In the third stanza, it is evident that once life and changes are given a chance, one will see life in a clearer and different perspective.
"Go and open the door, if there's a fog it will clear". The composer uses metaphorical language to demonstrate at times life can be very hard and the individual may find the future obscure and unclear. Josephine was quite unsure where she and Michael Andretti futures were heading. She was distant and confused about knowing she had a father which made her think twice in having anything to do with...
