Athletes Behaving Badly

I beleive that athletes' off field behavior has no reflection on what they do in a game. What they do off the field is their buisness. If a person has committed a crime, depending ont he seriousness of the crime, it shouldn't mean that they can be kicked off of a team. To take away a scholarship from an athlete who was convicted of a crime is wrong.
If someone were to committ, or has committed a crime it shouldn't mean that they should get kicked off a team or get kicked out of a school. If a different person were to committe the same crime, but they didn't play a sport, there would be a totally different reaction to it. When an athlete beats up his fiancee everyone is in his buisness and it is a big deal. But when John Doe beats his wife in the middle of no where, no one can care less. It is true that athletes are looked at as role models, but when it comes to their personnal lives, everyone should just leave them alone. Athletes are being watched 24-7, one little screw up and the press is all over it. I believe that everyone is allowed mistakes and no one is perfect, so why are athletes persecuited when they mess up.
Lets take for example, Leonard Little. He is a linebacker for the St. Louis Rams. He was charged with involuntary manslaughter after he rammed his SUV into a car. The other driver was killed, and tests found that Little's blood-alcohol level was twice the legal limit. Everyone took this accident and made it into a big problem. Some people wanted him banned from football while some didn't care less of what he did. Just because he is a professional football player means that everyone has to get involved in his life. The article, "Even Athletes Get Benefit of the Law," was written by Ira Berkow. He is writing this article like this never happend before. I don't see Berkow writing about all of the other people who died in a drunk driving case. Just because Little is a professional football player means that he get special attention.
