3 Famous Athletes from Pennsylvania

Purpose Sentence: The purpose of my speech is to inform my audience about 3 famous athletes that were very successful in their respective sports and from Pennsylvania.

I. Introduction
A. When most people think of a famous athlete from Pennsylvania, they think about Jim Thorpe. Well today I am going to tell you about three other famous athletes from Pennsylvania.
B. Reggie Jackson, Joe Montana, and Kobe Bryant all have two things in common, they are outstanding athletes and from Pennsylvania.

II. Discussion
A. Reggie Jackson
1. Reginald Martinez Jackson was born on May 18, 1946 in Wyncote, Pennsylvania.
2. He was one of the most clutch baseball players of all time, which is where he got his nickname Mr. October for his playoff heroics.
a. He is the only player ever to hit 3 homeruns in a single World Series game. They were all off the first 3 pitches he saw in the 1977 World Series.
b. He also hit 10 homers in 27 career World Series games.
c. He is the only non-pitcher to win the World Series MVP twice.
3. Reggie Jackson was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1993.

B. Joe Montana
1. Joseph Montana was born on June 11, 1956 in New Eagle, Pennsylvania.
2. He was drafted in the third round of the 1979 draft by the San Francisco 49ers. With that team is whom he would play 13 of his 15 seasons in the NFL. Like Jackson he was clutch when it came to the important games, because he set 9 Super Bowl records.
a. His most notable achievement was winning 4 Super Bowl rings.
3. Montana was inducted into the Football Hall of Fame in 2000.

C. Kobe Bryant
1. Kobe was born on August 23, 1978 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
2. At the time he entered the league he was the youngest player in it at the age of 18.
