Some people would agree that the above statement is a positive one while others would say that Australia is fine, as is. The need for an increased population is debatable because there are factors of the amount of land and resources available. I think we should increase the population for the sake of the Australians and also international relations. By this I mean giving Australia a better name, (in terms of popularity) and putting us on every map.
There are 19.2 million people living in Australia, which is a very small figure, considering how much land we have. Compared to the United States of America (275 million) we are diminutive, therefore not the country of talk all the time. Everything in the world refers back to America somehow, and most of the world's entertainment and other services are based in the U.S.A. China and India are both developing countries with huge populations (billions) and they are still growing. Australia has roughly the same size land as India and we are not as heavily populated as them.
The reason for our minute population is because most of our land is uninhabitable or used for farming or other purposes. There are 8 main cities in Australia and this is where the majority of people live. These cities have large populations because of the amount of major resources available.
To increase the population we would need to make places like deserts and farmland more attractive and inhabitable. The amount of people living in rural areas is also large but many of these people work in the country and produce food and other supplies for Australia. People are more attracted to coastlines and places that are heavily populated.
