Marketing consists of how a business sells their goods and services to the general public. Well-known supermarket industries use a variety of techniques to sell their products, such as: advertising via television, posters and leaflets. In addition, they may use incentives, such as: "Buy one get one free", "Three products for the price of two", etc, to attract customers. Therefore, the marketing departments aim to gain the public's full confidence with their products.
The supermarket industry has been relatively secure from the recession that had hit the market many years ago. One of the core industries in the U.K. is food. Many years ago, people had to shop from their local corner shop, where there would only be a limited amount of food/groceries available. As the years passed, the trend of shopping locally had changed as we were introduced to supermarkets. They offer products from little hazard items and food to personal leisure items. This built an encouraging impact to the public, as prices were even cheaper than the high street. The marketing techniques had progressed to offer convenience to the public, by providing free home deliveries for the less benefit people. The current trend complies a technique of ordering directly from your home via Internet. It had therefore highlighted the trend of increase in public expenditure.
