Two thirty in the morning of February 6, 1945 a legend was born, on the poverty stricken island of Nine Mile. Robert Nesta Marley was one of the most well known musicians ever. Soon after Bob Marley's father Captain Norval Marley left him and his mother Cedalla Booker, rarely returning to see his son; but he did give Bob and Cedalla financial support. Bob Marley became intrigued by the rhythm of reggae at a young age.
When Captain Norval Marley left Bob and Cedalla, Cedalla and Bob moved to the booming city of Trenchtown in hopes of employment. Trenchtown offered very little hope for employment because of the poverty, violence, and disease. In the Trenchtown Bob Marley was not accepted as a true Rastafarian; because he was thought of by others as white.
Bob Marley's passion for reggae rhythms made him decide to drop out of school at the young age of fourteen, and became an apprentice to a welder. While working in the shop Bob was injured by a stray piece of metal, Bob wasn't severely injured but that one incident completely evolved his life. Bob quit working as a welder and began applying all of his focus to music, Bob began playing the guitar and working on the lyrical aspect of music.
Bob Marley began writing music; Bob Marley got his inspiration from singing doo-wop beats with his good friends Neville Livingston, Peter Tosh, and Junior Braithwaite through the roads of Trenchtown. All though Bob Marley was intrigued by reggae, Trenchtown exposed Bob Marley to the legends of reggae Fats Domino and Ray Charles. Bob Marley had more reason to pursue music; because it would free him from the poverty stricken life he had been living. Bob and his best friend Neville Livingston kicked off their musical career by taking a music class with the Jamaican singer Joe Higgs.
