Bolivia

I choose to do my Spanish Project on Bolivia because it is one of the two only Spanish speaking countries in the world with out a coastal boarder. Of these two countries, Paraguay and Bolivia, Bolivia was my choice because of the bigger population, economy and Butch Cassidy and the Sun Dance Kid. This movie made me fall in love with Bolivia.
Bolivia is officially called the Bolivian Republic. Its Capitol City is La Paz. There are three official languages: Spanish, Quechua, and Aymaro. The official currency in Bolivia is called Boliviano. There is one main religion in Bolivia, Roman Catholicism. The population is approximately 8,012,000 people and grows by 1.67% every 18 months. The land area of Bolivia is 1,084,390 sq km (418,683 sq miles). The Geographic coordinates of Bolivia are 17'00 S, 65'00 W. The National Holiday and Independence Day is August 6, 1825. Bolivia consumes 3.377 Billion kWh of electricity every 18 months. Bolivia exports: $1.26 billion soybeans, natural gas, zinc, gold and wood. Bolivia imports: $1.86 billion capitol goods, raw materials, chemicals, and semi-manufactures. There are also 48 television broadcast stations, 9 internet service providers, 1,093 airports, 3,691 km of Railway, 49,400 km of Highway, and 10,000 km of Waterways. Lastly, the Pipelines of Bolivia carry 1,800 km of crude oil, 580 km of petroleum products, and 1,495 km of natural gas.
The Bolivian culture has a mix of Native American and Mediterranean culture. On religious days the Native Americans express themselves through song and dance that blend the cultures together. In these festivities, some dresses represent the Native American interpretations of European attitudes. The dance of waka-tokoris satirizes bullfights, and the morenada mocks white men, who are represented leading imported African Slaves. Native American instruments are used to accompany these dances.
