Human beings have always dwelled on competition and success, from the first tribal wars of the earliest humans to the bloody franchise wars of the twentieth century's booming fast food industry. Erich Schlosser defines and analyzes what it means to be successful in one of the world's largest industries in the fourth chapter of his book, Fast Food Nation. It is clear through his argument that the author believes there is a large gap between the success of those at the top and bottom of the fast food industry. By looking at the successes that each and every one of these fast food giants has achieved, I realize that fast food has become a necessary section in our economy. It significantly manipulates American's daily meals, health and wallets to proceed on the way to success. In his analysis of success in fast food industry throughout chapter four, Schlosser proves his point that there are differences between the successes of different fast food companies. By showing us conflicting viewpoints, using irony, tying in religious references, and giving personal stories, Schlosser is able to most effectively prove that success is not equally attainable for all fast-food workers.
The fast food industry in some eyes has been one of the smartest inventions this world has seen since the invention of wheels. It has been driven by our stomachs and our wallets for 40 to 50 years and it's still growing to this date. The man who invented it can be called the smartest person, or best businessman this country has ever seen.
