It has always been a critical issue about children and society. I agree that children's learning and society are correlated; however, the statement above brings up a contention that how children should be socialized and whether it is an over-statement to declare that how children are socialized determines the destiny of society.
What I want to debate, in the first place, is about children's socialization. Is it really exists a necessity of children's socialization? If so, should the process of socialization be made intentionally or go through naturally? I am on the opinion that children's socialization process should be determined not by anyone else but by their own characters and social experiences. Each child has different a character, which may lead him/her to various lives. Extroverts like to socialize with more people, whereas introverts are inclined to stay alone. Therefore, children are not made to socialized to fit the society built up by their ancestors; rather, they have their own right to decide how they are going to socialize with others. The proper thing we, as their elders, should do for the children is to offer them varied opportunities allowing them to have enough information to make their own choices.
As I mentioned above, we should build up an environment to let children learn freely; as a result, only when our society is sound and healthy can we be assured that children are able to grow up well and socialized well. So I agree that the destiny of society is really important; however, we should not rely on children's socialization to determine the destiny of society; in fact, it is an undue statement that how children are socialized determines the destiny of society. The destiny of society, which is determined mainly by us the elders, is also influenced by many other factors than children's socialization, such as economic situation, technology development, and population as well.
