"It Is More Important To Allocate Money For Immediate, Existing Social Problems Than To Spend It On Long-Term Research That Might Help Future Generations."
It is folly to ignore the present for the future,similarly, it would not be wise to let the future fend for itself,as we have some responsibilities towards our future generations.To create a balance,we need to manage our existing funds wisely.While this is an easy task for developed countries like America which has plethora to devote to both causes,in countries like India this decision needs lot of thought and consideration as the funds are tight and require frugal use.
It is vital to allocate money for the present.when a govt. gives too much attention to the future and ignores the present needs,the results can be disastrous.For eg. in India,when railways authorities were busy allocating funds for decentalisation and research on running metroes for easing future crowdings and tumult,they ignored the very vital repairing of existing tracks and bridges which led to hundreds of accidents and killings,the latest one being the giving away of a 100 yr. old bridge to the pressure of a passing train to lead the unwary passengers into the river of their death.To avoid such situations,we must take into account the precariousness of apresent situation,if left untended.moreover,by dealing with the present,,we will have negated such incumbencies from the list of the generations to come.thus by helping our present we will eventually help our future.
Some may argue that we cannot cross the bridge until we come to it,so let us concentrate on our way instead.the future can take care of itself.As it is their task to cross,let them do it.While There is some truth in the reasoning that we should fend for ourselves and leave the following generations to follow suit.But what about the paths we have destroyed in our wake?we have to compensate for those losses by providing our future generations with viable replacements.For eg.we,in our bid for increased energy utilisation have depleted the existing natural energy resources like coal to the level of extinction.So if it is...
