Explain how this teaching about discipleship might affect the life of a Christian today?

All this teaching of discipleship can greatly effect the ways of a Christian life today.

To individual Christians discipleship can mean a number of things. There are many

different responses aswell. Many Christians would find it hard to follow all of Jesus´

teachings and become a ‘true disciple´. However it is as important for Christians

today as it was for the first disciples of Jesus.True discipleship is not something that

can be done in a half-hearted way.It means giving all they have in the service of God

and other people.

"I tell you the truth, this poor widow has put more into the treasury, than all
the others. They all agve out their wealth but she, out of her poverty, gave everything she had." (12:41-44)

Discipleship in Christ's time meant suffering, rejection and death. We who are

disciples today may not be called to do so, but it is important to realise that

discipleship does still involve service and sacrifice. They may find it difficult to show

all the qualities of a disciple, such as giving up all they have because they may have

family responsibilities and it would be negligent to leave them or take things away

from them. But Marks Gospel encourages readers that discipleship may mean leaving

everything behind to follow the Christian way of life. Just like in the case of Peter it

may mean having to give up familt, parents and friends.

"Peter said to him,"We have left everything to follow him." (10-28-31)
