A Memorial Day Weekend Dinner
Memorial Day weekend of the year 2001 was my first weekend in the U.S. My uncle George, whom at that time I was with, took this opportunity to welcome me to America. He took me out for dinner in one of the most decent restaurants in the neighborhood known as the Paradise Restaurant.
On arrival at the Paradise Restaurant, situated in the citadel of Bronx, New York, we were welcomed by two cheerful ladies who took our names. They were dressed in black pants and white long sleeved shirts with a simple pony tail hair style. They told us there would be a wait of approximately fifteen minutes and asked us for our seating preference. After waiting for a while, a skinny, blonde young lady, also dressed in black pants and a white long sleeve shirt, formally came to lead us to our table.
She said, "My name is Kimberly, and I will be your waitress for this evening." She then asked us to follow her. We walked behind her to a non-smoking table. The pleasant spicy aromas of our surroundings from different kinds of food blended together and made my stomach begin to growl.
She gave us our menus and asked us what we wanted to drink. I requested for Pepsi, and my uncle asked for Diet Sprite. The restaurant was very noisy. I could hear the sound of mumbling from the many conversations people were having there. The clinking sounds of plates, glasses, and silverware from servers running helter skelter all over the place could not be forgotten. The place was spacious enough to offer service to about 45 people. Fluorescent lighting on the ceiling of the restaurant provided a very bright room. There was also a garden setting in the middle section of the restaurant which had medium-sized roses and jasmine flowers for a pleasant atmosphere. Kimberly returned after five minutes with the drinks served with a lot of ice cubes which came along with nacho chips as appetizers. We were then ready to order from our menu. I...
