"Older Workers" In Apa Format

Running head: OLDER WORKERS

Older Workers Thriving Well After Retirement Age

Abstract
Older workers are redefining today's workforce. A large number of people are determined to postpone retirement or returns to work in their existing field or even begin a completely different career path. As the supply of older workers has risen, so has the demand from employers.

Older workers are playing a significant role in the workplace and redefining retirement for a variety of reasons. There are large numbers of men who are victims of layoffs that began new jobs and are still trying to recoup lost pay. There are a large number of women who entered the workforce in their forties and now consider themselves only mid-way through their careers. One thing both genders have in common is the large number who just simply cannot afford to retire.
For the majority of the older population working contributes to self-esteem and also provides a personal identity for those who identify who they are by what job they do. The most important source of daily life involvement an older person can experience is through employment. Employment for the senior population is also a source of dignity and a sense of still feeling useful and valued.

Older workers are accustomed to just being cast aside in order to make room for the new young talent coming in to do the same jobs. This cycle of the young eager newly educated worker replacing the older worker is coming to an end. The needs are changing as the older population is living longer and healthier there is less thought for the older worker to feel the need to leave or for the employer to feel the need to replace the older worker.(Thomas & Chilco, 2001)
