'Pele' Edgar De Nacimiento

Edson Arantes do Nascimento, better known as Pele, is one of the greatest athletes to ever set foot on the planet earth. Pele was one of the top one hundred athletes of the twentieth century. He is said to be the best soccer player that ever lived. Pele was possibly the best paid athlete in his time (Encyclopedia Britannica, 246).
Pele was born on October 3, 1940, in a small Brazilian village known as Tres Coracoes. His father, Joao Ramos do Nascimento, or Dondinho, as he was known in the soccer world, was also a professional soccer player. Pele's mother, Celeste, gave Pele the love he needed to live a normal happy life. When Pele was a child, he and his family moved to Bauru. This is where Pele became familiar with soccer and will learn to master the sport (www.isfa.com, 1).
Pele started his soccer career early. He was a great player who always stood out and shined among the best. At the age of eleven he played for an amateur league and was discovered by a Brazilian World Cup player named Waldemir de Brito (www.360soccer.com, 2). At the age of fifteen, in1956, de Brito took Pele to try out for a professional team called the Santos Futebol Clube (SFC). The same day de Brito told the team staff that this will be the greatest soccer player in the world (www.360soccer.com, 1). For sure Pele would become the best player in the world.
On September 7, 1956, Pele would get his first taste of professional soccer. He was not a starter but the next season he would be a regular starter on the field. In this first game pele came in off the bench and scored one of the seven goals scored in the game. His first professional goal on the goalkeeper Zaluar. "Zaluar will become famous as the first goal keeper to take a goal from the great Pele", (www.isfa.com, 1). In Pele's first league game with the Santos club he scored four goals.
