A Question Of Knowledge
A Question of Knowledge
I chose to read an article entitled, "Critical thinking crucial to global success", written by, A Chaedar Alwasilah. This article basically argued that their country, Indonesia, and other countries around the world do not receive adequate curriculums as well as teaching techniques from their instructors.
A Chaedar Alwasilah depicts an educational system that lacks modern resources, empathy, technology, and the willingness to change their current system to educate. The subject of language was the primary focus due to the fact that if delivery methods along with implementing improved techniques in this subject will change the way we think as a society. Their reasoning for focusing on the need to change the way we deliver the curriculum of language is because this is the basics for all other subjects that are taught in an educational system.
This author advises that there are many opinions out there that state the educational system needs to be revamped from elementary through college. The delivery methods of the teachers to their students seemed to be "emulated" methods. Alwasilah states, "Teachers tend to emulate their former teachers in the classroom. The tendency to emphasize the theory rather than practice of language has been a common phenomenon in language classes. And this practice seems to continue up to now. No wonder our school students lack language skills in particular and communication skills in general. It is high time to de-emphasize theory in favor of communication skills."
This article has shed light on an array of issues, opinions, and suggestions. What this article lacks is statistical data to prove that there is a need for revamping an educational system, new technology, and change to the existing teaching methodology.
Overall if Alwasilah wanted readers to agree with him there would be some questions in determining if this was an urgent matter of deprivation of knowledge....
