It has been a full year since the Younger family has moved to Clybourne Park. The Younger family has settled into their new home in this all white neighborhood. Mama has planted her precious garden in the front yard of their new home. Ruth and Walter just recently had their baby boy, which they named Joseph. Walter got a new job as a car sales man and he is extremely happy now. Beneatha has just recently become a doctor. Travis is very happy with his new home and about having is own room now.
The Younger family and Asagia are now having dinner on a Monday night. Walter Lee has just returned form his new job in a cheerful mood. As Walter is making his way to the front of the house the Younger's next door neighbor calls Walter over the speak to him.
Walter: "How are you Mr. Anderson? Is there anything I can help you with today?"
Mr. Anderson: I'm fine. I just called you over to tell you that Mr. Lindener stopped by a few days ago asking us to sign a petition to kick you and your family out of the neighborhood. He asked me to sign it, I obviously didn't. I just wanted you to know."
Walter: Well I would like to thank you for your warning me but you know that me and my family are proud people and we will deal with what ever Mr. Lindener and the rest of this neighborhood tries to do with us.
Mr. Anderson: "No, no I don't think that you will have to deal with Mr. Lindener or the rest of the neighborhood because when Mr. Lindener stopped by and showed me the petition I saw that only half of the neighborhood had signed it."
Walter: "How will I not have to deal with them, you just said that Half the neighborhood had signed the petition?"
Mr. Anderson: "I am trying to tell you that for the petition to be put into effect Mr. Lindener needs at least three fourths of the neighborhood to sign the petition. That means that for now, you and your family are able to live here without any troubles."
