A Self-Assessment And Reflection Paper

Lifelong learning is a requirement for every business professional. Times are changing. Therefore, the need to learn new things and keep pace with these changes has become imperative. This makes me realize that I need to become more serious about my professional development. In order to plan my professional development, I need to perform a self-assessment upon myself; discussing my personal learning style, my strengths and opportunities for growth, and create an improvement strategy based on my assessment.
Group or team studying has never been a favorite of mine. I have often thought that I tend to learn best alone. My study environment usually consists of me sitting at a table or some area with enough space for me to spread my materials out. Light background noise comforts me while I study. The background noise allows me to concentrate more on the subject matter, therefore, making my intake of information more valuable. Due to the fact that I have a short span of attention, I usually do not study for long periods of time. Or if I do study for long periods of time, I find that the amount of material covered does not adequately match up to the amount of time investing into studying. When given an assignment, I generally read through the assignment first. While reading through the assignment, I take brief notes. These notes are in no particular order or set pattern. I jot down key ideas and reference them for later. In preparing for the next class period lecture, I review the subject areas that are being lectured on. This allows me to have a better understanding of the material before the lecture. While in class, I again take brief notes of key points and mark them for follow-up. After class, I often rewrite my notes adding additional information from the textbook or other references.
