A Short Essay On Capital Punishment By Mikelia Estrada
If there is one issue politicians are engaged in, it would most probably be capital
punishment. I think this is the ultimate denial of civil liberties. It violates the
constitutional ban on cruel and unusual punishment and all our rights to be human,
and therefore I think it concerns us all. Yes, I oppose capital punishment.
When people support death penalty they were often given details about murder cases.
People who want to convince one, give examples of cases. Arguments of supporters often
refer to a particular case. Weak arguments. They ignore the fact this shouldn't be
about individuals, but about humanity as a whole. Who gives attorneys the right to
act the same like murderers did? Wouldn't that make them murderers too? Do they think
they can bring justice by doing so? No way if you ask me. I'm not saying murderers
can get away with it. But that's not what it's about. The thought attorneys can and
are allowed to kill too (and do get away with it!) is the most sickest thought here.
They call it justice, but is there really justice in the system if this is still
happening? This systems murders and claims to protect you. I call it a crime against
humanity.
One marked country in the Western world that is still maintaining this way of
punishing is, of course, the United States. Although a big deal of all states have
already abolished the death penalty, there are still too many states remaining that
haven't yet. But there's hope. Even prominent conservatives have been questioning
capital punishment lately, while traditionally they have supported tough law and
order credentials. Some of the conservatives have even pushed for more DNA testing
and such things to prevent people from being wrongly convicted. Also, there have
