Vincent Van Gohg
This picture is one of the most popular of Vincent Van Gogh's works. The Starry Night was completed near the mental asylum of Saint-Remy in June1889, 13 months before Van Gogh's death at the age of 37. The Starry Night is an oil on canvas painting. It is shown in The Museum of Modern Art, New York.
As soon as you look at this picture you see long green grass, which appears to very close and in front of everything. The church also stands out because it is very crisp and clear. It consists of lighter colors then everything else around it. Van Gogh uses shots of bright yellow for the stars with planets that twirl around. There are rolling hills near the back of the painting that seem to heave and quake. There are many different types of lines through out this painting including vertical, horizontal and diagonal. The church also contains a lot of vertical lines that make up the roof, and steeple. In the sky there are many different lines going in all different directions that would make you thing of a chaotic night, but with his use of color it makes it feel soothing. The lines in the stars in the sky direct my attention because it catches my eyes and makes you want to follow the lines to see where they go.
The colors that Van Gogh uses in this painting are very different yet compliment each other well. The complimentary color of blue is orange and Van Gogh uses orange in the planets and stars and it makes them stand...
