Meeting Community Needs
Human Services is one of those fields where you need to have a lot of knowledge about various aspects of life in our society as well as the community in which you live and work in. I have certainly learned much by working at --------------- as a Central Intake Associate. This is a position that I am very proud of, since I obtained it with my own efforts and have performed well in all areas of my employment. Just recently I have been promoted from a family worker to a caseworker with an increase in salary and responsibilities I had a rather broad array of responsibilities which include assisting individuals with the Home Energy Assistance Program. This program, otherwise known as HEAP, is a program to help pay heating bills for low-income individuals and families. The low-income HEAP program is a federally funded program so I learned a lot about following Federal guidelines, rules and regulations that must be meet and preparing records and documents for quarterly audits. Documentation is very important as well as keeping good organized records. The most important part of the job is determining eligibility for the program based on income and their current housing situation. Each individual is interviewed on a one to one basis; however outreach is sometimes necessary for certain individuals. Home visits are required for targeted households with vulnerable individuals.
